Ben Barnes

Abstract: These records are speeches and speech-related correspondence dating from 1949 to 1972 (bulk 1965-1972). Most of the speeches were given by Ben Barnes although copies of a few speeches given by Preston Smith, John Connally, Hubert Humphrey and others are also present. Speeches were given to federations, associations, universities and clubs.

Content: Former Lt. Governor of Texas, Ben Barnes, delivered a thicket of speeches during his political career. As a politician, Ben Barnes spoke to all walks of life on a multitude of subjects. Republicans and Democrats alike heard Ben Barnes' voice resonate from border to border in the walls of the Lone Star state. Whether it was at the state capitol or at an elementary school, Ben Barnes the politician synthesized with Ben Barnes the man to create a successful, accessible and highly likeable man. Ben Barnes was, undoubtedly, a great orator.
